About The Position

This is a contracted, live, and in-person position for an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Lecturer / Lab Assistant for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. The role involves teaching in the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), and Paramedic Programs. Instructional topics cover a wide range of EMS preparatory and operational subjects, including airway management, medication administration, patient assessment, medical and trauma emergencies, special populations, and cardiology.

Requirements

  • State of Maine licensure as a Paramedic, Nurse (RN), Respiratory Therapist (RT), and/or Physician Assistant (PA-C), Nurse Practitioner (NP), and/or Physician (MD/DO) with a minimum of one (1) year continuous clinical experience in Emergency Medical Services, Urgent Care, Emergency Department, and/or Intensive Care.
  • EMR and EMT Program Leads may be licensed as an EMT.
  • AEMT Program Leads may be licensed as an AEMT.
  • Maine Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of active instructional experience as a college instructor or equivalent.
  • Applicant must be legally eligible for employment in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain collateral communications among administration, Program Director(s), Medical Director(s), department chair(s), Clinical Coordinator, faculty, and students.
  • Instruct students in course content and assigned subjects.
  • Demonstrate EMS skills.
  • Instruct students how to perform EMS skills from lesson plans and instructional guides.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with effective methods for content delivery in a learning environment.
  • Track skills progression & utilize learning management systems to track student progress and grades.
  • Supervise peer-review sessions.
  • Evaluate student competency utilizing program guidelines in the classroom, laboratory, clinical, and field settings.
  • Recommend changes to assessments, lesson plans, presentations, program guides, and curriculum related to EMR, EMT, AEMT, and/or paramedic education.
  • Demonstrate effective counseling and remediation of students.
  • Serve as Lead Instructor of an EMR, EMT, AEMT, and/or Paramedic Program when needed.
  • Train clinical supervisors and field internship preceptors for student clinical rotations and expectations.
  • Observe and evaluate students and preceptors on-site for clinical and field/internship rotations.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for preceptors and key personnel to program clinical and field internship standards.
  • Work with the System Clinical Coordinator to achieve the goals of the Clinical and Field Internship Programs.
  • Quality assurance and improvement review and instruction/feedback of documentation through learning management systems.
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, and current clinical practice knowledge base through life-long learning and continuing education.
  • Attend training, meetings, and committees as available.
