EMS Clinical Coordinator (Part-Time)
About The Position
The EMS Clinical Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating all clinical and field internship components of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program. This position ensures that student clinical experiences meet all requirements established by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP), the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS), the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), and Pitt Community College (PCC). The Clinical Coordinator maintains the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of all clinical documentation and serves as the primary liaison between PCC, clinical affiliates, preceptors, and students. This role is critical in ensuring that all student clinical hours, patient contacts, and competencies are valid, verified, and auditable.
Requirements
- Current NC EMT-P (Paramedic) credential.
- Ability to be credentialed and approved to practice by the Pitt County Medical Director (or designee) within three (3) months of hire.
- Associate’s degree in EMS, Healthcare, Education, or related field or ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months of hire.
- Current provider-level certifications: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire).
- Minimum three (3) years of experience as a practicing Paramedic
- At least one (1) year of experience in EMS education, training, or precepting
- Demonstrated ability to deliver structured educational content.
Nice To Haves
- North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services Level I EMS Instructor (Paramedic level).
- AHA Instructor certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS).
- National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification.
- Three (3) years of experience in clinical education, field training, or precepting (FTO or equivalent).
- Experience teaching in a community college or accredited EMS program.
- Bachelor’s Degree in EMS, Healthcare, Education, or related field.
- Documented experience (=100 hours) in EMS instruction (initial, continuing, or clinical education).
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and manage all student clinical and field internship placements
- Develop and maintain clinical schedules in collaboration with healthcare and EMS partners
- Ensure appropriate student-to-preceptor ratios and clinical site capacity
- Verify all student clinical hours, patient encounters, and skill competencies
- Implement and enforce documentation validation procedures
- Conduct routine and random audits of clinical records to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Provide for a Quality Assurance (QA) process for student documentation
- Report discrepancies or suspected falsification of records to the EMS Director
- Recruit, train, and evaluate clinical and field preceptors
- Provide orientation on program expectations, evaluation tools, and compliance requirements
- Maintain strong working relationships with clinical affiliates and EMS agencies
- Track student progress in clinical competencies and patient contacts
- Ensure students meet all graduation and credentialing requirements
- Provide feedback and remediation plans as needed
- Ensure alignment with CoAEMSP accreditation standards and reporting requirements
- Maintain documentation required for accreditation site visits and audits
- Support continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives within the EMS program
- Maintain accurate and secure clinical records in accordance with national, state and institutional policies
- Assist with program reporting, data analysis, and outcomes tracking
- Provide classroom or lab instruction as needed
