About The Position

PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, headquartered in Andalusia, AL, is a generation and transmission (G&T) electric cooperative with 22 distribution members - 18 electric distribution systems and four municipal electric systems - in Alabama and northwest Florida. PowerSouth's member systems provide power to end-use consumers across 51 counties in Alabama and 10 counties in Florida. PowerSouth's most important asset is a workforce of more than 560 men and women at nine PowerSouth locations. The purpose of this position is to assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Energy Management System (EMS) hardware and software environments and other supported systems. This position requires that all tasks be completed in adherence to regulatory standards, including North American Reliability Corporation CIP standards and is responsible for maintaining the integrity, security, best practices, and regulatory compliance of the Energy Management System and the supporting infrastructure. In addition, this position will require after hours support on a rotational basis. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field. In addition, the incumbent should possess the capability to effectively convey information verbally and in written form, for both technical and non-technical audiences. It is preferred the incumbent have working knowledge of programming languages and development tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide system administration and infrastructure support, including database design and administration, systems design and administration, networking, and security configuration for high availability of the Energy Management System, Metering Systems, and Security applications along with supported hardware systems; provide assistance with application administration of Energy Management Systems, Metering System, Security applications and supporting systems; assist with annual EMS software/hardware upgrades and implementation of new features; daily review of system alarms, logs, database statistics, and server statistics; evaluate and install patches and firmware updates.
  • Participates in development and logical system design necessary for systematic, accurate and timely processing of information, ease of use, and logical data presentation; assists in coding and debugging scripts, software programs and applications according to specifications to support operations of the Energy Management System, Energy Control Center, and other related systems as needed.
  • Aids in the compilation of procedures, manuals and forms as requested to facilitate the use and maintenance of EMS programs by users; assist in documenting EMS task, work instructions, and support notes as needed to enhance maintenance and support functions.
  • Assists in performing ongoing or periodic compliance tasks and maintenance of processes/procedures to meet compliance deadlines; assist with evidence collection and maintenance of records to prove compliance; assist with development, implementation, and enhancement of internal controls, and in implementing new requirements; assist with research and implementation of tools for security monitoring and security enhancements as needed; assist with periodic reviews and audits including CIP and Operations compliance along with other areas as needed.
  • Performs application and system support functions as required to fulfill corporate and departmental goals as specified and performs user support as needed; general system administration with network management; accountable for special projects and assignments as needed.
  • Manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines at a project level; show time management skills and be able to balance competing demands and responsibilities; identifying and determining the importance and urgency of tasks and projects.
  • Responsible for ensuring the success of PowerSouth by promoting teamwork, group goals and objectives, properly communicating and cooperating within the PowerSouth organization and with member systems as well as demonstrating and promoting standards of respect and dignity, accountability, integrity, and trustworthiness.
