About The Position

The Physician Liaison is responsible for working effectively with the medical staff, health care providers and other personnel as needed to expedite the ongoing and timely completion of documentation in patient records for compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and/or related standards, policies or practices for medical records. The Physician Liaison must have a working knowledge of documentation required in patient charts as needed to accurately review, effectively follow-up, and process transactions from designated work queues. Duties also include effective and timely follow-up with providers regarding priority chart completion requirements including both pre-suspension and delinquent charts. Individuals must work well independently and effectively in identifying methods for reviewing documentation timely and effectively following up to obtain information and/or prompt timely completion of documentation that may be needed in patient charts. The Physician Liaison should also be familiar with HIM quality review functions as needed to assist with chart analysis, processing transactions from the fax-in queues, and other priority functions as needed or directed.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field or equivalent experience in the health information management field.
  • Two years of experience in a health information management setting including chart documentation analysis preferred.
  • Excellent PC knowledge and skills including windows and hospital information system software.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and medical record documentation requirements.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including English usage, punctuation and grammar.
  • Data entry skills of 45 wpm.
  • Proficiency with Excel as needed to manage spreadsheets.
  • Ability to perform production-oriented work under pressure with ongoing time constraints.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised and be self-motivated, with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, CMS documentation standards, health system policies and related documentation requirements for patient medical records.
  • Knowledge of patient privacy laws at both a state and federal level including HIPAA, also required.
  • Visual and auditory acuity required for processing and following up on indexing issues.
  • Ability to perceive and respond to similarities or differences in colors, shapes, or other values of the same or different color.
  • Good hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills required.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills as needed to effectively manage conflicting priorities and assure consistent and timely completion of required tasks.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing given need to analyze data and work through documentation issues with providers, other team members and management.
  • Excellent attendance record required, including punctuality.
