About The Position

Accord serves individuals with disabilities and is looking for an Employment Specialist to join their team. This role involves removing barriers, building relationships, and helping individuals find success in their lives. The position offers a dynamic and ever-changing environment where each day is different. The role requires flexibility, with work conducted both remotely and in person, and occasional availability for evenings/weekends.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate good time management skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Must have a vehicle.
  • Must pass a Department of Human Services background study.
  • If holding a Social Work degree, must be currently licensed as a Social Worker as required by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.

  • A four-year bachelor’s degree in a field related to human services and one year of full-time work experience providing direct care services to persons with disabilities or persons age 65 and older.
  • An associate degree in a field related to human services and two years of full-time work experience providing direct care services to persons with disabilities or persons age 65 and older.
  • A diploma in a field related to human services from an accredited postsecondary institution and three years of full-time work experience providing direct care services to persons with disabilities or persons age 65 and older.
  • A minimum of 50 hours of education and training related to human services and disabilities and four years of full-time work experience providing direct care services to persons with disabilities or persons age 65 and older under the supervision of a staff person who meets the qualification identified above.

Responsibilities

  • Hold a caseload of individuals, providing support and advocacy.
  • Provide flexible, individualized employment supports in three areas: Exploration/Discovery, Development, and Support.
  • Assist individuals in understanding competitive, integrated employment opportunities.
  • Help individuals achieve competitive, integrated employment, become self-employed, or establish a microenterprise business.
  • Provide services and supports to help individuals maintain paid employment in community businesses.
  • Engage in communication with support teams, planning, and represent Accord.
  • Attend meetings, advocate for the person served, and provide training.
  • Become credentialed in the MN Employment Services field.
  • Visit job sites and provide support to individuals as needed.
  • Organize details such as scheduling, transportation (including driving supported individuals in personal vehicle), and employer communication.
  • Write reports and maintain licensing requirements.
  • Utilize creative talents to help people find work.
