About The Position

Boston Higashi School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Employment Education Specialist (Teacher) to join their team. This role is crucial in helping students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) aged 3 to 22 reach their full potential. The school utilizes the innovative Daily Life Therapy® methodology, which integrates academics, arts, music, physical education, and social skills to foster student growth. The Employment Specialist will identify, develop, and maintain meaningful on-campus and community job sites, collaborating with staff, supervisors, and families to create individualized employment education plans. The goal is to build students' confidence, independence, and success in the workplace, preparing them for meaningful contributions to society.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Strong initiative, excellent communication skills, and professionalism.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • A valid driver’s license is required (some driving is necessary).
  • Willingness to embrace the Daily Life Therapy methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Program goals and objectives for employment education, integrating social and community goals within job sites, based upon the principles of Daily Life Therapy.
  • Work with staff on identifying appropriate skills prerequisite to a job placement.
  • Identify work sites for the students in collaboration with the Master Teacher.
  • Write comprehensive annual educational assessments based on daily observations and interactions in the areas of employment education and social skills.
  • Complete quarterly progress reports.
  • Participate in all student activities including: extensive physical exercise, and other various forms of exercise including lifting, standing, squatting and jogging one to three miles daily.
  • Participate in activities/lessons/job sites along with students, as a role model and motivator.
  • Communicate student progress to parents, the Master Teacher, and the Division Director.
  • Serve as a contributing member with other Employment Specialists in developing successful teaching strategies, curriculum, and program improvements in accordance with the Curriculum Frameworks and Daily Life Therapy.
  • Develop teaching materials and methods tailored to each student and job site.
  • Participate in TEAM meetings for students when appropriate.
  • Develop a Professional Development Plan with the assistance of the Master Teacher.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks as assigned by the Master Teacher, Division Director, and/or Director of Programming.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with residential teachers regarding students.
  • Attend all Boston Higashi School events and participate in assigned committees.
  • Attend morning, afternoon, and division meetings daily.
  • Complete all required staff training.
