About The Position

The Employment Counsellor is a client-facing role responsible for delivering individualized employment and training services to Métis clients. The position involves conducting assessments, developing return-to-work action plans, and providing coaching and referrals to support clients in achieving their education or employment goals. Employment Counsellors also administer client funding supports—such as tuition, transportation, or living allowances—in alignment with program guidelines and funding agreements. This includes maintaining accurate case files, verifying documentation, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and reporting requirements. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, service-focused environment.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of experience
  • University Degree
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
  • Advanced administrative, organization and communications skills
  • Organization skills, time/priority management, and highly detail-oriented
  • Ability to problem-solve, demonstrate sound judgement, and make decisions independently within set processes and procedures
  • Ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision
  • Finance knowledge (budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, reporting)

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of associated program goals, including delivery of services, managing volunteers, and maintaining and supporting clients within a pre-defined geographic area.
  • Provide support to assist clients in developing skills to deal with and resolve identified challenges.
  • Maintain client files, including case notes, to collect pertinent data, ensuring client confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform administrative duties related to case management and service delivery.
  • Ensure program delivery is consistent with funding agreements, including community engagement and support for navigating the system.
  • Plan and execute on a client service plan, including the provision of financial assistance and referrals to other services.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of service and program delivery.
  • Organize and facilitate community events to enhance client and community knowledge, improve client access, and provide training on cultural sensitivity and awareness.
  • Conduct one-on-one client assessments and develop individualized return-to-work action plans, identifying appropriate employment, training, or educational supports tailored to each client's needs and goals.
  • Administer client financial supports (e.g., tuition, transportation, living allowances) following program guidelines, ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Maintain active case files and provide ongoing coaching and follow-up, tracking client progress, updating records in the database, and preparing reports to support program monitoring and accountability.
  • Promotes the values of the organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and professional relationships with others (employees, citizens, council, volunteers, advocates, etc.).
  • Reports all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within the MNO’s policies and procedures and provincial legislation.
  • Performs other job/branch-related duties as required.
