About The Position

Polymarket is seeking an Employment Counsel to join the Legal and Compliance team. This role will work closely with the Chief People Person on a wide range of employment matters for a growing, global workforce. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the company's employment practices are clean, well-documented, and legally sound as the company scales. This includes serving as the primary resource for HR on daily inquiries, developing essential policy infrastructure, and managing any litigation or agency charges.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree with active bar membership in good standing.
  • 5+ years of employment law experience, either in-house or at a firm with direct client counseling experience.
  • Prior experience working directly with an HR or People team on a daily basis.
  • Hands-on experience managing employment litigation and agency charges (EEOC, state equivalents, civil litigation).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently handle classification questions, employee relations issues, and termination decisions.
  • Experience building or overhauling core employment documents such as handbooks, offer letter templates, and severance frameworks.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment with evolving processes.

  • Experience working at a crypto, fintech, or similarly regulated company.
  • Experience building employment policies at a high-growth startup with simultaneous growth in headcount and complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and review offer letters, contractor agreements, and advisor arrangements, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and legal soundness.
  • Address daily employment questions from the People team directly, minimizing escalations.
  • Manage active employee complaints and performance-related documentation from intake to resolution, maintaining appropriate records and advising on risk.
  • Partner with the Chief People Person on employee relations issues, providing legal advice and acting as a thought partner.
  • Track and respond to employment litigation and agency charges, coordinating with outside counsel and managing the company's position.
  • Build and maintain core employment documents, including offer templates, severance frameworks, and policy materials, creating them from scratch when necessary.
  • Proactively identify employment risks and drive issues to resolution.
