About The Position

This position involves working with non-complying employers to achieve compliance with Ohio's Workers' Compensation Laws. The specialist will review provided information, develop action plans for coverage, reinstatement, or proper reporting, and collaborate with the BWC Collections Unit and State Attorney General for payment arrangements. The role also includes facilitating customer service activities for a positive compliance resolution and working with the BWC Special Investigations Unit when compliance issues are not addressed. The position may require travel, necessitating the ability to provide one's own transportation and/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle. The core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with potential variations based on operational needs. BWC offers flex-time work schedules, allowing employees to start between 7:00 am and 8:30 am, subject to operational needs and supervisor approval. Most positions are performed on-site.

Requirements

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, insurance & risk management or related field of study; must be able to provide own transportation.
  • 2 yrs. exp. in public or private insurance organization position that involved insurance sales, marketing or provision of consultative services to commercial clients/employers; must be able to provide own transportation.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
  • Skill in operation of personal computer.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to write meaningful, accurate & concise risk reviews.
  • Ability to gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things.
  • Ability to answer routine & technical inquiries from employers.

Responsibilities

  • Work with noncomplying employers before taking enforcement steps to obtain compliance with Ohio's Workers' Compensation Laws.
  • Review the information provided and develop an action plan to attempt to obtain coverage, reinstatement, or proper reporting.
  • Work closely with BWC Collections Unit and State Attorney General to assist with payment arrangements.
  • Responsible for facilitating all necessary customer service activities in a final effort to obtain a positive compliance resolution.
  • Work closely with BWC Special Investigations Unit when steps are not taken to remedy compliance issues.
