About The Position

The Employee Relations and Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s complaint, grievance and investigation procedures, overseeing discipline, corrective actions, performance improvement plans, overseeing performance evaluation process, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a culture of ethical conduct and accountability. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and supports risk mitigation efforts in a nonprofit behavioral health environment. This role will supervise HR personnel performing HRIS and compliance-related duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in employee relations, compliance, and investigations
  • Must have ethical judgment and integrity, emotional intelligence, attention to detail, critical thinking, communication, influence, and cultural competence
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent writing skills, investigative, and problem-solving skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, analytical, and proactive
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to effectively comprehend and execute processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to tackle multiple projects within tight timeframes and deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree and HR Compliance certification preferred
  • Master's Degree with relevant certification (e.g., SHRM CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, CHC preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related, 8 years of experience, and the above certifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the organization’s grievance and complaint resolution process for employees, clients, and stakeholders
  • Ensure timely, fair, and consistent handling of complaints in accordance with organizational policy and legal requirements
  • Maintain confidential documentation and tracking systems for all grievances
  • Identify trends and recommend corrective actions to Corporate Counsel and Compliance Officer
  • Conduct thorough, unbiased investigations related to employee relations issues, discrimination, harassment, and policy violations
  • Interview involved parties and gather relevant documentation
  • Prepare detailed investigative reports with findings and recommendations
  • Partner with HR and leadership to implement appropriate corrective action
  • Oversee the issuance of discipline, corrective action, and/or performance improvement plans (PIPs)
  • Track the issuance of discipline, corrective action, and/or performance improvement plans to ensure consistency
  • Provide support to Managers, Program Directors when meeting with employees to issue discipline/corrective action/PIP
  • Assist with the identification of training when necessary
  • Oversee HR personnel to ensure finalized, signed documents are maintained in the respective personnel files
  • Ensure consistent application of policies and procedures
  • Oversee HR distribution of 90-day and annual performance evaluations
  • Oversee HR personnel responsible for ensuring 90-day and annual performance evaluations are complete
  • Oversee HR personnel responsible for ensuring 90-day and annual performance evaluations are maintained in personnel files
  • Oversees HR personnel responsible for performing all background checks on new hires and current employees
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., EEOC, HIPAA, OSHA, state-specific non-profit and behavioral health regulations)
  • Develop, review, and update policies and procedures to ensure regulatory requirements
  • Support audits, licensing reviews, and accreditation processes
  • Identify compliance risks and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Prepare reports on grievance trends, compliance metrics, and risk areas
  • Oversee HRIS duties and responsibilities
