About The Position

The Emerging General Manager (EGM) role is a developmental leadership position designed to prepare high-potential leaders for future General Manager opportunities within Walmart Supply Chain. This role provides immersive experience leading complex operations, developing enterprise-wide business acumen, strengthening leadership capabilities, and driving operational excellence across a large-scale distribution or fulfillment environment. The Emerging General Manager partners closely with General Managers and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver business results, develop talent, execute Walmart Performance System (WPS) initiatives, and lead continuous improvement efforts while building the skills necessary to successfully transition into a General Manager role.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g., Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Financial Management, Production/Operations Management); and 3 years experience in a senior management role within an operations/distribution/logistics/retail environment, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors; managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees facility-wide OR 2 years experience as a Walmart Logistics Assistant General Manager supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing associates; managing associate workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of associates OR 5 years experience in a senior management role as an operations/distribution/logistics/retail environment, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop broad operational expertise across a complex supply chain facility, gaining end-to-end knowledge of distribution, fulfillment, transportation, inventory flow, quality, safety, and customer experience.
  • Support the development and execution of facility business plans to achieve key performance goals related to productivity, quality, service, safety, and financial performance.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement opportunities that enhance operational efficiency and drive sustainable business results.
  • Partner with operational leaders to ensure consistent execution of Walmart Performance System (WPS) principles and initiatives.
  • Assist in managing facility financial performance by monitoring budgets, evaluating business metrics, optimizing asset utilization, and supporting cost management initiatives.
  • Analyze operational and financial reports to identify trends, opportunities, and risks while recommending data-driven solutions.
  • Balance short- and long-term business priorities to support sustainable growth and performance.
  • Lead, coach, and develop salaried and hourly associates while fostering a high-performance culture built on accountability, engagement, and growth.
  • Support workforce planning and staffing strategies to ensure the facility is appropriately resourced to meet business demands.
  • Identify and develop future leaders through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
  • Create an environment where associates feel supported, valued, and empowered to perform at their best.
  • Champion a culture of safety, quality, ethics, and compliance across all aspects of facility operations.
  • Ensure adherence to Walmart Supply Chain policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and operational standards.
  • Support facility-wide processes that drive continuous improvement in quality assurance and workplace safety performance.
  • Build strong partnerships across Walmart functions including Operations, Finance, Transportation, Human Resources, Merchandising, Asset Protection, and Supply Chain leadership.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and execute strategic initiatives that advance organizational objectives.
  • Serve as a Walmart ambassador by participating in community events, philanthropic initiatives, and local partnerships that strengthen Walmart's presence and impact in the community.
  • Resolve associate, customer, and supplier concerns through thoughtful investigation, sound judgment, and effective problem-solving.
