About The Position

Performs professional level duties under minimal supervision to instruct students in accordance with state and district curricular standards and policies pertaining to the education of Emergent Bilingual (English Language Learner) students. This role involves regular contact with students, other teachers, support and administrative staff, and parents, requiring tact, diplomacy, and independent judgment for problem-solving, policy interpretation, and counseling. The position emphasizes good people skills, adherence to safety guidelines, district dress standards, attendance policies, and a creative, initiative-driven approach to instruction aligned with the Oklahoma Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Model.

Requirements

  • State Licensure or Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Minimum)
  • Completion of student teaching
  • Demonstration of Content Knowledge when teaching assignment is in ESSA category required to meet highly qualified standards.

  • Prefer knowledge of Spanish Language

Responsibilities

  • Supervises students in the classroom and throughout the building and grounds throughout the work day.
  • Maintains proper classroom discipline.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that stimulates students to learn in both an active and passive mode.
  • Assist the classroom teachers with translating documents, lesson planning for EB students, accommodating daily work and tests for ELL students, anticipating possible problems for EB students.
  • Assists with State Testing by providing small group sessions for students who need special accommodations.
  • Test students with the WAPT and the ACCESS for EB's.
  • Create and monitor plans for EB Students.
  • Collect Home Language Surveys and review for accuracy.
  • Contact parents in the event of emergency situations, behavior issues, attendance issues, positive reinforcement, and special events as needed.
  • Work with principals, counselors and teachers to assure parents are getting and understanding necessary information.
  • Properly monitors EB student activities and progress.
  • Monitors student achievement regarding successful completion of assignments and assessments, as well as attitude, attendance and receptivity.
  • Provides an opportunity for all students to achieve based upon their learning capacity.
  • Contributes to the effectiveness/quality of school programs, including extracurricular programs.
  • Actively supports and looks for ways to improve the quality of education, including cooperating with other school personnel.
  • Serves on committees with a constructive attitude.
  • Continues to be involved in personal growth and development.
  • Cares for and effectively assists students with special concerns.
  • Interacts constructively with parents.
  • Attends school and district meetings as required by administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
