About The Position

At VCA Midwest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center, the Emergency Veterinary Technician (ER/ICU) plays a critical role in patient care across emergency and specialty services. This involves supporting a wide range of cases, from triage and stabilization to ongoing ICU care, while working alongside a highly skilled, collaborative emergency and specialty team. The center delivers progressive treatments in Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Diagnostic Imaging, and Oncology. The role offers strong technician utilization, a collaborative environment with specialists, hands-on learning in a teaching-focused hospital, and exposure to advanced diagnostics and critical care medicine.

Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) or eligible to sit for the VTNE
  • Ability to stay calm and organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Passion for high-quality, patient-centered care

Responsibilities

  • Triage and assist in stabilizing emergency patients
  • Provide advanced nursing care in ICU and critical care settings
  • Administer medications, CRIs, and fluid therapy
  • Perform diagnostics (lab work, imaging, sample collection)
  • Assist with advanced procedures (central lines, transfusions, oxygen therapy)
  • Communicate with clients during high-stress situations with empathy and clarity
  • Collaborate closely with ER doctors, specialists, and support staff
