Swansboro Animal Hospital Emergency and Trauma Center is a 24/7 emergency veterinary practice located in the coastal town of Swansboro, North Carolina. We value progressive, high-quality medicine and encourage veterinarians to find their passion in veterinary medicine. Our surgery and internal medicine caseloads are high, giving you the opportunity to expand your skill set. Medical autonomy is paramount in our emergency field, and we are committed to not micromanaging our veterinarians. If you are a new graduate or just new to emergency medicine, you will be provided supportive mentorship along the way! We will provide as much, or as little, guidance as you would like as you begin your journey with us. We are an educational and mentorship-first hospital, providing externship opportunities to both technician students and aspiring veterinarians. Collaborative medicine is imperative for growth in veterinary medicine, and we encourage cooperation between all members of the staff. We have monthly doctor meetings, case reviews, and rounds at every shift change to bridge the gap between support staff and DVMs. We are happy to equip our veterinarians with high resolution DR radiographs, ultrasound, endoscope, LigaSure vessel sealing device (you'll never go back I promise you!), cautery unit, Idexx diagnostic machines (including blood gas, blood typing, cortisol, bile acids, clotting times, SediVue), VetFlex ICU oxygen cages, Vetspire veterinary software, digital cytology, monitoring equipment, donor blood bank, Cubex inventory management, and a fully stocked pharmacy. We employ RVTs, assistants, kennel technicians, and CSRs to ensure a smoothly operating workplace. Our goal is for emergency veterinarians to be able to focus on their tasks and responsibilities without worrying about micromanaging others. We have a dedicated doctor's office with a futon to grab a quick nap and a fully functional break room that is stocked monthly with snacks and drinks. Work life balance and a flexible schedule are the main perks of emergency medicine, and we provide both! We value our time off, so we want the same for you! Burnout in veterinary medicine is real, and we want to help you love veterinary medicine again (or continue loving it!). Enjoy your time off at any of the many local beaches or if you are interested in more city adventures, Raleigh and Wilmington are both two hours away. Most importantly, we have an emotional support cat named Gus that would love to add another superstar to his Churu rotation!
