We’re looking for a dedicated Emergency Vehicle Technician to take on complex, hands-on work maintaining and repairing a wide range of emergency vehicles and specialized equipment during our 2nd shift. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Vocational, technical or trade school training in automotive technology preferred.
  • Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience in the repair and maintenance of Fire Trucks and/or Ambulances or three (3) years of experience working on medium and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Experience must have included preventative maintenance checks, computerized diagnostics, and complex electrical, mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting.
  • Five (5) years of full-time equivalent experience in the repair of complicated motor control panels and switches and gasoline and diesel emergency power supply systems or closely related experience.
  • Must obtain Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must be a Certified as a Motor Vehicle Inspector, licensed by the State of Virginia, or the ability to pass the requirements to obtain license within 90-days.
  • Must obtain and maintain ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications in the truck content areas of "Electrical/Electronic Systems", "Diesel Engine" and ASE Medium/Heavy Brakes within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or have the ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • Must possess a complete set of automotive mechanic tools at all times while in this position.
