About The Position

Fouts Bros Inc. is seeking an Emergency Vehicle Technician/Quick Response Team Technician to join their team. The QRT Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upfitting of emergency vehicles, Service Trucks with Cranes, and Bucket Trucks to ensure optimal performance, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires advanced technical knowledge of both standard automotive systems and specialized emergency vehicle equipment such as sirens, light bars, and power inverters. The technician must ensure that all work is performed efficiently and safely to support critical public safety operations. This full-time position in Milledgeville, GA is part of the Quick Response Team Department and will report to the QPT Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of automotive repair experience
  • Proficient in diagnosing and repairing both standard automotive and emergency-specific systems.
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Familiarity with wiring schematics, multiplex systems, and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in time-sensitive situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, especially when interacting with customers.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, climbing, kneeling, and bending.
  • Ability to work in varying conditions including outdoors, under vehicles, and in emergency garage environments.
  • Exposure to noise, exhaust fumes, and hazardous materials.
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from a technical or vocational school in automotive technology preferred.
  • ASE Certifications (A1-A9) — particularly in electrical/electronic systems and heavy-duty truck systems.
  • EVT Certification (Emergency Vehicle Technician) highly desirable.
  • CDL may be required depending on fleet size and type.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, service, and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems in emergency vehicles including fire trucks, crane service tucks, and bucket trucks.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot emergency vehicle equipment (e.g., sirens, lighting systems, emergency warning systems).
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance inspections and repairs according to manufacturer and department specifications.
  • Ensure all repairs meet government safety and compliance standards (NFPA, DOT, SAE, ANSI, etc.).
  • Accurately document all work performed on repair orders.
  • Test drive vehicles and systems post-repair to verify safe operation.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Customers to understand and address vehicle-specific needs or issues.
  • Communicate effectively with customers during inspections or while providing technical support.
