About The Position

The Emergency Management Specialist (EMS) position is designed to help assure the health and well-being of the individuals and communities by preparing for, responding to, and recovering from public health emergencies. The EMS will assist with planning, designing, and maintenance of emergency planning. Provide technical assistance to internal and external grant partners in support of grant guidelines and deliverables. Assist in the review of after-action reports and improvement plans to ensure the integration of relevant changes. The EMS will participate in Emergency Operation Center (EOC) activities for scheduled exercises and real-life events. This position will help manage the Health Alert Network (HAN) program and provide training on the Montana Public Health Directory. This position works closely with other emergency preparedness staff to ensure planning, training, grant requirements, and exercise needs are incorporated. Other duties will include participation in drills, preparedness conferences, meetings, workshops, summits, and other duties as assigned. The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Public Health and Safety Division in Helena. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, emergency management, public administration, homeland security, or related field.
  • Two years of job-related experience in health data systems or health education.
  • Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200 certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience working in public health at the local or tribal level is preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, coordination of people, engaging stakeholders, and quality improvement.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking.
  • Ability to facilitate groups and lead teams toward organizational goals.
