About The Position

The Emergency Services Technician (EST), under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, provides emotional and physical comfort and safety to patients. The role involves observing, recording, and reporting changes in patients’ conditions; performing therapeutic procedures and treatments according to the medical center’s policies and procedures; maintaining a safe unit environment; restocking supplies; and checking equipment operation. The technician collaborates with Leadership in developing and implementing the medical center’s culture, mission, and goals.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• One of the following: EMT, CNA, PCA, Surgical Technician, Medical Assistant, completion of a fundamental nursing course, or one year of experience in a healthcare setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Recognize and report changes in patients’ clinical condition, such as changes in color, shortness of breath, or vital signs, to appropriate nursing staff and/or a physician.
• Perform and document procedures as appropriate, including taking vital signs, performing and labeling EKGs, and obtaining and delivering specimens.
• Assist physicians and nurses with examinations, treatments, and minor surgical procedures.
• Assist patients with turning, bathing, positioning, and ambulating.
• Attend all mandatory education programs offered by the hospital and/or department annually.
• Complete daily assignments involving utility-room storage, trays, carts, and supplies.
• Follow Emergency Department procedures for the use, processing, and replacement of special equipment, trays, and supplies.
• Maintain a safe unit environment, restock supplies, and check the operation of equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
