About The Position

Hartgrove Behavioral Health System is a 160-bed psychiatric hospital dedicated to providing quality behavioral health services for a diverse population of all ages. The Emergency Services Manager role is an exciting opportunity within a stable and growing behavioral health organization in the Chicago-land community. This position has 24/7 responsibility for the department, including on-call duties and ensuring proper staffing. The manager oversees daily activities, ensures prompt response to patient and referral needs, provides staff supervision, and assures the appropriateness of assessments, level of care determinations, and referrals. Responsibilities include monitoring data entry, educating clinicians, responding to clinical inquiry calls, completing level of care assessments, and providing clinical triage. The role involves communicating admission, referral, and discharge information to Hospital Administration and providers, training staff on the admission process, and ensuring compliance with mental health laws, codes, rules, and regulations. Maintaining intake and admission data/records, and staying current with information on discharges, bed availability, admission times, and level of care assessments are key. The manager must be knowledgeable about hospital programs and services, possess a strong understanding of department computer systems, and complete corporate reports, staffing schedules, and maintain forms and documents. This role is comparable to an Emergency Room environment, characterized by a fast pace, multitasking requirements, and the ability to handle highly stressful situations. The manager will cover for the Director or other ES Leadership positions in their absence and participate in a rotating AOC schedule for hospital-wide administrative support/coverage.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Psychology or related field or Nursing degree.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with a psychiatric mental health population required.
  • LPC, LSW or RN required.
  • Thorough understanding of the DSM-V criteria, psychotropic medications, and strong assessment skills with the ability to develop quick and effective clinical rapport.
  • Thorough understanding of hospital programs and services, with the ability to clearly explain available resources and processes to patients, families, and staff.
  • Ability to provide de-escalation techniques and crisis stabilization in high-pressure situations.
  • Working knowledge of Illinois Confidentiality Act, Illinois Mental Health Code, EMTALA, and ILPA process.
  • Serves as role model for staff promoting desirable performance through maintaining a professional approach and providing a positive work environment.
  • Excellent organization, documentation, and data management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Good oral skills, and written communication.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years preferred experience working with a psychiatric mental health population.
  • Experience in an emergency room setting / Intake preferred.
  • LCPC or LCSW preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Has 24/7 responsibility for the department, including being on call and ensuring proper department staffing.

  • Knowledgeable and able to explain Hospital programs and services.
  • Has a strong understanding of the department computer systems.
  • Completes and distributes corporate reports, completes staffing schedules and maintains forms and documents.
  • Covers for the Director or other ES Leadership positions in their absence.
  • Participates in rotating AOC schedule to provide administrative support/coverage for the entire hospital.
