Cares for patients in the Emergency Department under direction of nursing staff. The ED Technician Advanced role is required to meet unit competency and orientation requirements as defined for the ED Technician role, additionally demonstrating competency in: Attaching patient to end-tidal CO2 monitoring (when applicable), managing and reporting collection devices (colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems, indwelling catheters, nasogastric tubes to suction), completing manual process for blood pressure and reporting abnormal values, and discontinuing invasive devices (indwelling catheters, nasogastric tubes, peripherally inserted intravenous catheters) under the direction of the supervising RN. Serves as a mentor to new hires and a resource to all ED Technicians, supporting them for a minimum of three shifts. Oversees ED Technician orientation under the direction of the department educator, completing orientation and competency checks. Educates new hires on departmental procedures, safety, and health issues, and coaches for improvement. Brings concerns and new ideas forward to the unit manager and reports staff behavioral concerns immediately. Completes documentation for care provided (food consumption, bowel movements, movement, etc.). Serves as a liaison to nursing management and new ED Technicians. Assists in identifying process improvement opportunities, processing patient charges, and ordering supplies. Assists in acquisition of supplies for EMS, restocks EMS supply room, and checks for outdated equipment and supplies. Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities and serves as a role model in Critical Moments of Service standards. Special projects and other duties as assigned.
