Emergency Room Technician, Adult Emergency Department - Full-Time, Nights
About The Position
The Emergency Room Technician assists and augments registered nursing staff in providing high-quality patient care in the Mitchell and Comer emergency rooms. The technician must demonstrate the expertise and competency of all required skills in accordance with Illinois State law. The Adult Emergency Department has 55 patient care rooms, including a rapid assessment unit, six trauma/resuscitation suites, and separate rooms for infection isolation, immune-compromised patient care, and psychiatric consultations. In the general care area, 45 rooms have critical care monitoring capabilities. The department supports nurse involvement in unit-based councils, quality initiatives, staff mentorship, and compassionate care for a diverse population. This is a 100% onsite position based in Hyde Park. Candidates need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- One of the following: C.N.A. with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience; M.A. with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience; or EMT-B or EMT-P.
- Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance tasks without direct supervision.
- Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public.
Nice To Haves
- Emergency department experience is highly preferred.
- ACLS/PALS certification.
Responsibilities
- Transport patients throughout the hospital as needed.
- Keep supplies and linen at par levels in assigned areas.
- Perform and maintain point-of-care testing and EKG, including quality control and transmission of data.
- Assist registered nurses with patient care as needed or requested, within the limits of law and policy.
- Sit with medically or psychologically compromised patients.
- Maintain a clean work environment by preparing emergency department rooms for the next patient when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
