The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) functions as a technician, supply aide, and unit clerk to support in the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department (ED). The EDT works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. EDT will be asked to perform various technical procedures, be responsible for stocking the ED with required supplies, equipment, and instrumentation to ensure safe, effective patient care. Duties can also include, efficiently use the computer and telephone, and maintain an orderly and efficient nurses station. The EDT will interface with all guests, visitors, families, and patients arriving at, or calling the ED. The incumbent provides directions and information as well as making appropriate referrals. The position of ED technician is identified as "department safety-sensitive". Department safety-sensitive positions mean employment positions which may in the normal course of business: Require the employee to operate the company vehicles or heavy equipment, or Involves duties, which, if performed with inattentiveness, errors in judgment, or diminished coordination, dexterity, or composure, may result in mistakes that could present a real and/or imminent threat to the personal health and safety of the employee, co-worker, and/or the public. As an ED technician, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
