This role performs basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies, procedures, and practices. The technician meets qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area and promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. The role involves triaging patient care by identifying, observing, and documenting the physical needs of the patient and families, and reporting changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse. The technician will also assist patient care staff by performing procedures such as wound care, splinting, and EKGs, and providing patient care that may relate to rehabilitation to carry out a multidisciplinary care plan. Additionally, the role includes performing unit desk clerk functions, obtaining and maintaining the integrity of specimens, performing blood glucose monitoring, urine and stool/sputum/stat testing, and assisting with transporting patients and medications. The technician will also assist patients with daily activities including undressing, dressing, lifting, and positioning. Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary. The role coordinates relations between care providers, patients, and visitors. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The technician is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
