As an Emergency Room Technical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care under the direct supervision of registered nurses and providers. Requirements
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
- BCLS certification required.
- One of the following certifications/programs required: B-EMT, Graduate from a formal Medical Assistant program, Completion of a formal nursing education program, or Completion of a formal medical doctor education program.
- OR One (1) year of applicable Emergency Room Technical experience in lieu of above completed certification/program.
- Successful completion of a 180-day orientation period required.
Nice To Haves
- Previous Emergency Department Technician, Medical Assistant experience preferred.
- EMT license preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assists RNs and Providers with assessments, examinations and treatments as requested, including drawing blood and collection of specimens, EKGs, splint/immobilizers applications, taking vital signs on adults and pediatric patients, inserting neuro-gastric tubes, urethral catheterization of adult patients, discontinuance of peripheral IVs, and starting unmediated IVs.
- Prepares and assists Providers with procedures such as suturing, application of casts, and miscellaneous procedures including pelvic exams and lumbar punctures.
- Assists patients as needed.
- Recognize potential of life-threatening dysrhythmias and abnormal vital signs and report same to RN/Provider.
- Adheres to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines.
- Documents patient care performed.
- Interact with patients and families as appropriate, ensuring excellent patient and customer experiences.
- Transports patients and supplies.
- Cleans equipment, monitors stock, and restocks equipment and supplies as required.
- Assists in ordering routine equipment; maintains enough stretchers, wheelchairs, suction equipment, etc. in ER area.
- Maintains departmental cleanliness and prepares rooms between patients.
