About The Position

The ER Tech is responsible for all basic patient care duties. This includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic treatment as ordered by the physician on duty, operation of laboratory equipment, patient discharge, and education. The role involves triaging patients to determine their location of treatment (Emergency room versus urgent care), providing general patient care including therapeutic and diagnostic intervention, and offering age and education-specific education to all patients. The ER Tech will also be responsible for maintaining a clean work environment, which may include duties such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters. Adherence to all company policies, including HIPAA, is required. The position emphasizes fostering a friendly, respectful, and customer-focused work environment that encourages patient participation in healthcare decisions. The ER Tech must accurately interpret physician instructions, assist the physician with patient treatment, and communicate effectively with the physician and operations coordinator. Key duties include administering medications, collecting specimens, conducting laboratory tests, and reviewing lab policies. Collaboration with health team members is essential for patient well-being. The role also involves executing physician orders, including medication administration, treatments, and IVs, and observing and documenting patient responses. Preparation of specimens and operation of lab equipment are also required. The position mandates 100% attendance at mandatory yearly skills training, maintaining all required professional certifications and licenses, participating in facility certifications, maintaining CEUs, completing assigned education on time, and attending a minimum of four staff meetings (reading minutes for any missed meetings). Patient education and discharge instructions are crucial. The ER Tech must follow infection control and OSHA safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • LVN, EMT-P certification or diploma
  • Current BLS & ACLS certification (or 60 days upon hire)
  • Current PALS/ENPC certification (or 60 days upon hire)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Time management.

Responsibilities

  • Triage all patients upon arrival to determine their location of treatment. (Emergency room versus urgent care)
  • Provide general patient care. This includes therapeutic and diagnostic intervention.
  • Provide age and education-specific education to all patients.
  • Assure a clean work environment. This may include duties often reserved for housekeeping services, such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters.
