About The Position

The ER Tech is responsible for all basic patient care duties. This includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic treatment as ordered by the physician on duty, operation of laboratory equipment, patient discharge, and education. The position involves triaging patients to determine their location of treatment (Emergency room versus urgent care), providing general patient care including therapeutic and diagnostic intervention, and offering age and education-specific education to all patients. The role also requires maintaining a clean work environment, which may include duties such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters. Adherence to all company policies, HIPAA policies and procedures, and fostering a friendly and respectful work environment are essential. The ER Tech will provide a customer-focused, friendly, reassuring, and open environment for patients and their families, encouraging their participation in health care decisions. This role requires accurately interpreting a physician’s instructions, assisting the physician on duty with patient treatment, and communicating with the physician and operations coordinator regarding patient needs and observations. Key responsibilities include administering medications, collecting specimens, conducting laboratory tests, and reviewing lab policies and procedures. Collaboration with health team members is crucial for patient well-being. The ER Tech will execute physician orders, including medication administration, treatments, and IVs, and observe and document patient responses to medications. Preparing specimens and operating lab equipment are also part of the duties. The role mandates 100% attendance at mandatory skills training yearly, maintaining all required professional certifications and licenses, participating in facility certifications, maintaining CEUs, completing assigned education on time, and attending a minimum of four staff meetings. Patient education and discharge instructions are critical. The position requires adherence to infection control and OSHA safety guidelines. The physical demands include talking, hearing, and specific vision abilities. It requires intermittent physical activity such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting/supporting patients. The work environment is a healthcare setting with potential exposure to radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood borne diseases, chemicals, fumes, odors, gases, and dusts. There is also exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic materials, and moderate noise from equipment. The position requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, and may require climbing, kneeling, or crouching. Incumbents will be scheduled based on operational need, including rotating shifts, standby, and on-call duties. This job description is not exhaustive and duties may change.

Requirements

NREMT with IV certification, a paramedic or an LVN
At least 1 year of ER experience is a must
Time management.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and follow HIPAA regulations.

Basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
MA, CNA, CMA, LVN, NCT, EMT-P, EMT-B certification or diploma
Current BLS & ACLS certification.
Completion of company provided laboratory testing education and competency.

Responsibilities

Provide patients and their families with a customer-focused, friendly, reassuring, and open environment that encourages patient participation in health care decisions.
Accurately interpret a physician’s instructions.
Assist the physician on duty with the treatment of patients.
Communicate with the physician regarding the patient's needs and client feedback, and the operations coordinator's observation.
Administer medications.
Collect specimens and conduct laboratory tests
Review and uphold lab policies and procedures
Collaborate with health team members to ensure the patient's well-being as evidenced by staff/client feedback.
Support the efforts of team members
Execute physician orders, including administration of medications, treatments, and IVs according to policy and procedure
Observe and document the patient's response to pertinent medications.
Prepare specimens and operate lab equipment.
Review and uphold lab policies and procedures.
100% attendance at mandatory skills training yearly.
Maintain all required professional certifications and licenses.
Participate in any and all certifications of the facility.
Maintain CEU’s
Complete yearly assigned education on time
Attend a minimum of four staff meetings and read and sign all minutes of meetings not attended.
Patient education and discharge instructions.
Follow infection control and OSHA safety guidelines.
