About The Position

A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse to join a busy Level III Trauma Emergency Department in Yuma, Arizona. This high-volume Emergency Department treats approximately 200 patients per day and serves as a STEMI and stroke receiving center. The department includes 52 beds, four trauma bays, six fast-track beds, dedicated CT and X-ray capabilities, and 24/7 respiratory therapy and security support. Candidates must have at least two years of recent Emergency Department experience and significant experience working in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center. This position is best suited for an RN who is comfortable managing high-acuity emergency patients, independently interpreting telemetry, and responding rapidly to critical situations.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license or eligibility for Arizona licensure
  • Minimum of two years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience
  • Recent Level I or Level II Trauma Center experience within the past two to three years
  • Strong telemetry interpretation skills and ability to independently read cardiac rhythm strips
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale certification
  • Strong emergency assessment, prioritization, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple high-acuity patients in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience caring for critically ill and trauma patients
  • Ability to work 12-hour night shifts
  • Ability to meet weekend and holiday scheduling requirements
  • Willingness to float to a nearby freestanding Emergency Department when needed

Nice To Haves

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course certification
  • Experience treating patients with gunshot wounds or stab wounds
  • Experience in Level I Trauma Center environments
  • Critical-care or ICU experience in addition to Emergency Department experience
  • Experience managing critical-care drips

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients presenting with a broad range of emergency and trauma conditions
  • Perform rapid assessments, triage, and prioritization using the Emergency Severity Index
  • Manage medical, surgical, cardiac, neurological, respiratory, and trauma emergencies
  • Monitor and independently interpret cardiac telemetry and rhythm strips
  • Recognize critical rhythm changes and initiate appropriate interventions
  • Provide care to STEMI and stroke patients according to established protocols
  • Stabilize trauma patients and assist with emergency procedures
  • Manage critically ill patients being held in the Emergency Department while awaiting inpatient placement
  • Administer medications, blood products, IV therapies, and critical-care infusions according to established protocols
  • Start peripheral IVs and obtain laboratory specimens when needed
  • Assist with management of gunshot wounds, stab wounds, and other traumatic injuries
  • Collaborate with emergency physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Accompany critically ill patients to CT, X-ray, or other departments when clinically necessary
  • Utilize dedicated emergency imaging resources to support timely diagnosis and treatment
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Respond to cardiac arrests, rapid deterioration, and other emergency situations
  • Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and trauma-care standards
  • Participate in modified self-scheduling and department staffing requirements
  • Float to a nearby freestanding Emergency Department when scheduled or operationally necessary
