About The Position

The Emergency Response Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the training and development of the Mine Rescue Team to ensure team members are equipped and capable to safely and proficiently perform rescues while maintaining compliance with MSHA regulations and OceanaGold Standards, Policies, and Procedures. This role involves developing and maintaining onboarding processes and continuous internal training programs, including monthly underground and surface training plans, yearly scheduling, and coordination of external rescue training and competitions. The coordinator will also maintain comprehensive training, testing, and certification records, manage notification systems for certification expirations, and maintain the Mine Rescue member roster and daily shift coverage. Additionally, the role ensures adequate incident command capabilities, regulatory compliance, and manages inventory and service records for all Mine Rescue supplies, equipment, and vehicles. The coordinator is responsible for ensuring equipment readiness, conducting regular inspections and audits of fire protection systems, administering training management systems, and updating policies and procedures. They will develop and maintain emergency response plans, create after-action reports, coordinate annual drills, and ensure Mine Rescue Team compliance with MSHA requirements. This includes participating in inspections, assisting with regulatory reporting, coordinating fire extinguisher maintenance, maintaining the Mine Rescue House and Training Facility, and developing budget proposals. The position also provides on-call support, assists with EMT roster management, and supports the site Incident Management Team.

Requirements

  • Underground Mining Experience
  • Mine Rescue, emergency response, EMS Experience
  • Experience with industrial emergency response systems & equipment
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, PowerPoint and reporting/ documentation systems
  • Valid Drivers license required
  • Ability to maintain required Mine Rescue Certifications and physical qualifications
  • MSHA Blue Card

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the training and development of the Mine Rescue Team.
  • Develop and maintain onboarding processes and continuous internal training programs.
  • Coordinate external rescue training and competitions.
  • Maintain comprehensive training, testing, and certification records for all Mine Rescue members.
  • Manage notification systems for certification expirations and training requirements.
  • Maintain Mine Rescue member roster, daily shift coverage, and ensure adequate incident command capabilities and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage inventory and service records for all Mine Rescue supplies, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ensure equipment readiness and conduct regular inspections and audits of fire protection systems.
  • Administer training management systems (Vector Solutions, Check-It, Who's Responding, Unified Solutions, etc.) and update policies, procedures, and standard work instructions.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans.
  • Create after-action reports for all Mayday events and regulatory incidents.
  • Coordinate annual drills and desktop scenarios.
  • Ensure Mine Rescue Team compliance with MSHA requirements.
  • Participate in mock and actual MSHA inspections.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting and documentation.
  • Coordinate fire extinguisher inspections and swap-outs per regulations.
  • Maintain Mine Rescue House and Training Facility housekeeping.
  • Identify and communicate maintenance needs.
  • Develop budget proposals aligned with operational needs and ensure budget compliance.
  • Provide on-call support during designated shifts.
  • Assist with EMT roster management and external response assistance requests.
  • Support the site Incident Management Team.
