Under the direction of the EMS Medical Director, POD Medical Director, and Director and Manager of EMS, the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations, implementation, and evaluation of Loyola University Medical Center Region 8 POD Hospital Disaster Preparedness and Response Program. This program spans nineteen hospitals, three counties (Cook, DuPage, and Will), state-certified health departments, emergency management agencies, and numerous schools and private agencies. The role involves researching and interpreting laws and guidance for healthcare preparedness, developing and updating regional mitigation, preparedness, recovery, and response plans, and establishing exercise scenarios to meet compliance and grant deliverables. Additionally, the coordinator facilitates planning and response objectives with regional partners and leads education and training initiatives for disaster preparedness and incident response.
