About The Position

Reporting to the Fire Chief, this is an executive-level civilian position that carries operational authority within Emergency Management. This position coordinates emergency management activities with all City departments, regional partners, volunteers, and external agencies. During activations, this position serves as the subject matter expert for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) operations and facilitates the coordination of the EOC to support the incident for operational needs, interdepartmental coordination, and resource management. Incident command authority remains with the appropriate public safety command staff. This position manages, develops, implements, coordinates, and maintains the City's Emergency Management Program. Responsibilities include oversight and supervision of the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP), preparedness planning, training and exercises, disaster response coordination, and recovery operations for any emergency or disaster affecting the City. In addition to Emergency Management responsibilities, this position may oversee assigned departmental initiatives including logistics coordination, enterprise software program management, and grant administration.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration or closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in Emergency Management, training and exercise design and implementation.
  • Any combination of education, experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform work required may be considered.
  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, IS 700, and 800 within 1 year of date in position.
  • Must be able obtain and maintain required regulatory training, credentialing, and certifications for Emergency Management.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) preferred.
  • EMI Master Exercise Practitioner preferred.
