About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. This role provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting. The PA performs complete histories and physical examinations, orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests, and develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on findings. The PA orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures, provides high quality and timely documentation, and performs bedside procedures as appropriate to the patient population. The Physician Assistant will provide patient care in the Emergency Department on a rotating schedule. The clinical care areas include acute care and observation at BWH, acute care and observation at Faulkner Hospital and urgent care at Brigham and Women’s Foxborough Urgent Care site. As part of comprehensive responsibilities, PAs conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel patients, interact with family members and colleagues, and prescribe medications. PAs will work under the direct supervision of an attending Emergency Medicine physician unless they meet the criteria in the EM PA Independent Clinical Guidelines (minimum of two years of EM experience and demonstration of clinical excellence). The PA will report to the EM PA Managers.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
  • Physician Assistant [State License]
  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years of EM experience and demonstration of clinical excellence (for independent practice)

Responsibilities

  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
  • Conducts physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel patients and interreact with family members and colleagues and prescribe medications.
