About The Position

Assist Ambulance is seeking certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in New York State to join our team on a full-time and part-time basis at our Brooklyn base. As a New York City EMS agency with a 30-year history, we provide a comprehensive range of Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency medical and transportation services across all five boroughs. We serve various healthcare facilities, including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, doctor's offices, and community-based organizations. EMTs are expected to adhere to the guidelines set by the Department of Health - Bureau of EMS and Trauma Systems, and the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of NYC protocols for BLS.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have an active NY State EMT-B card (NREMT card alone is not accepted).
  • EMTs hired as drivers must be at least 20 years old with 1 year of driving experience in New York City.
  • Must have a valid New York State D Class driver’s license with no more than 6 points or 2 major moving violations (DJ licenses are not accepted).
  • Must be physically fit to lift 125 lbs. and pass a lifting assessment.
  • Must be able to obtain 19A physical clearance and a negative PPD test (vouchers provided).
  • Must pass a 10-panel drug screening.
  • Must be able to commit to at least two 8-hour shifts per week on the same days every week (steady shifts).
  • Must be good with people.
  • Applicants' criminal history will be considered consistent with the requirements of the New York City Fair Chance Act.
  • Must be able to attend three days of in-person pre-hire assessments, including driving assessments on a separate date.

Responsibilities

  • Follow guidelines from the Department of Health - Bureau of EMS and Trauma Systems.
  • Adhere to Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of NYC protocols for Basic Life Support.
  • Act responsibly under extreme duress.
  • Respond to a large volume of emergency calls.
  • Potentially transition to 911 with One Brooklyn Health at Interfaith Medical Center after approximately 6 months of employment.
