About The Position

Tri-Community South is hiring Part Time and Casual EMTs. This role involves performing emergency medical care, responding to ambulance requests, transporting patients, and completing necessary documentation. The EMT will work under the direction of ALS personnel, supervisors, and the Administrative Committee, and will also be expected to function independently when treating BLS patients.

Requirements

  • Possess a current certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Be twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Possess a current and valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operators License
  • Demonstrate the ability to lift with a partner of equal size a 175 lb. person and carry them up and down a flight of stairs
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully perform five (5) out of seven (7) basic life support skills
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Required child clearances
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Technician certification
  • EMSVO certification

  • Learn and practice by the Standard Operating Guidelines of Tri-Community South EMS.
  • Wear the uniform and equipment provided during the scheduled tour of duty in all public appearances where the employee is representing Tri-Community South EMS.
  • Institute emergency medical care when necessary according to the level of care indicated by the Department of Health of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Respond to all requests for an ambulance from dispatcher/dispatch center.
  • Monitor all police/EMS radio communications during working shift assignment.
  • Learn and operate all equipment stocked in every emergency vehicle/response car belonging to Tri-Community South EMS.
  • Able to request assistance of additional emergency medical personnel, fire and police according to the Standard Operating Procedure Guidelines.
  • Transport the ill and injured to an appropriate emergency medical facility according to the current State mandated guidelines and policies of the System.
  • Communicate vital medical information pertinent to the patient to the receiving emergency medical facility using the appropriate communications.
  • Complete all medical records with all necessary information.
  • Complete all special report documents as specified in the Standard Operating Guidelines (i.e., crime scene reports, auto loss reports, on-job injury reports, equipment loss/damage reports, etc.).
  • Replenish stocked supplies used on each emergency call and fill out all paperwork completely and immediately stock and maintain vehicle according to the Standard Operating Guidelines.

  • Check stock supplies and vehicle functioning each shift according to the vehicle checklist.
  • Protect patients’ valuables and individual rights regarding confidentiality. Ensure HIPPA compliance for protected information. Properly document any personal/valuables that were transported in medical documentation.
  • Participate in the continuing education program of the System.
  • Supervise the activities of the basic life support personnel during the shift he/she is assigned to.
  • Maintain all requirements of the Tri-Community South Medical Director to continue to function at the level of Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Complete details assigned related to System operations.
  • Participate in public relations and awareness activities.
  • Complete responsibilities of committee and project assignments.
  • Complete any detail vital to system operations.
  • Accept the direction of the experienced Advance Life Support staff, Supervisor, Director and the Administrative Committee.

  • Assist in evaluating the complaints of patients, assessing vitals, administering oxygen, applying ECG monitoring, and setting up intravenous lines and various medications while supporting ALS personnel.
  • Assess, treat and transport BLS patients independently, even in the absence of any ALS personnel.
  • Be proficient with direct verbal and radio communication with other health and medical personnel.
