About The Position

Performs activities and functions according to MN State Department of Health rules and regulations. Supports the mission of the hospital while maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy compliance. Accepts patient safety as a key area of focus in job performance. This position is scheduled 72 hours per bi-weekly pay period. 12-hour shifts include day and night shifts, holidays and every 3rd weekend rotation.   • Minnesota State and National EMSRB Certification as EMT
  • Maintain active Minnesota Driver's License
  • Maintain active BLS Certification
  • Must be able to manage Emergency Medical Responders and by standers on a scene to ensure patient and scene safety.
  • Heavy Duty: exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally or 25-50 pounds of force frequently, or 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects, including the human body (based on U.S. Department of Labor data).
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • The following physical activities are required to perform the job: Occasionally (up to 33% of work time): Standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, smelling, color vision.
  • Frequently (34-66% of work time): Walking, carrying, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, near acuity vision.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates concern for patients of all ages, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information and privacy compliance.
  • Performs appropriate level BLS patient care on the scene and during transport to the hospital in a safe and effective manner to provide for the physical and psychological needs of patient/family.
  • Under general direction responds to the incident scene, sizes-up the situation on approach, begins patient contact and primary assessment survey Vital signs, airway breathing, circulation, bleeding, and life-threatening injuries.
  • Utilizes established protocols to begin pre-hospital emergency medical cares.
  • Performs secondary assessment of non-life-threatening injury/event. If it is determined the need for BLS (Basic Life Support) procedures are appropriate.
  • Will take responsibility to provide appropriate level of care. The EMT is designated primary care giver for that patient Observes, reports, documents subjective/objective data to maintain an accurate and timely run report.
  • Assists with Basic Cardiac Life Support or ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) in cardiopulmonary arrest (when indicated) and maintains annual CPR training.
  • Responds swiftly, but safely to the ambulance garage and to the incident scene.
  • Maintains safe control of the vehicle and equipment at all times.
  • Maintains scene security for rescue personnel and bystanders.
  • Complies with established policies and procedures for safety and infection control when giving emergency medical care to ensure the well-being of the patient and staff, i.e., cot side rails, safe medication administration, body substance isolation.
  • Utilizes ambulance checklist routinely.
  • Reports problems, deficits, or concerns to Ambulance Director in a timely manner to assist with safe provision and quality of care.
  • Performs routine equipment/supply/vehicle checks at beginning of shift.
  • Replaces/restocks used items and initiates requisition process as required.
  • Provides limited security duties to Astera Health as needed throughout the facility.
  • Cleans ambulance inside and out per established procedure after each run, as needed.
  • Follows the EMS code of conduct at all times.
  • Practices the principles outlined in customer service using the AIDET system.
  • Attendance at required trainings and a minimum of 1 staff meeting per quarter Vehicle Maintenance (inside/outside) Re-stocking supplies/meds in ambulance
