Emergency Medical Technician
About The Position
The Emergency Medical Technician responds to both non–emergent and emergent requests for medical transportation, provides emergency and non–emergency care in the pre–hospital environment within the scope of practice, and provides safe and efficient transportation of the patient to appropriate facility or residence. Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year experience as an Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
- VDL - Valid Drivers License (Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record at time of hire with annual verification required thereafter)
- EMT-B - Emergency Medical Technician Basic or EMT-A Emergency Medical Technician Advanced or EMT-P Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic
- BLS – Basic Life Support (AHA) or ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA)
- Ability to interact effectively with minimal supervision using good judgment, common sense, leadership ability, and a thorough understanding of the principles of emergency medical services at the basic level.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with patients, hospital personnel, emergency service providers, fire department personnel, and the general public
- ACLS (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH)
- Emergency Medical Services Advanced EMT - Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) - Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS)
- Emergency Medical Services EMT Basic - Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) - Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS)
- Emergency Medical Services EMT Paramedic - Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) - Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS)
- INSTRUCTOR- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH)
- INSTRUCTOR- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH)
- Valid Driver’s License - Various
Responsibilities
- Responds promptly to requests for non–emergent and emergency calls as directed by the dispatcher in a timely and safe manner.
- Completes documentation and records according to department policy.
- Ensures vehicle and equipment are ready for response at all times.
- Renders pre-hospital care at EMT-B level.
- Performs assigned duties in the Emergency Department under the supervision of the ED physicians.
- Maintains a good working relationship with fellow employees, community emergency service providers, hospital staff, physicians and other allied health professionals.
