About The Position

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at White County EMS, part of Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS), operates under the direct supervision of the Medical Transport Supervisor. This role requires knowledge of patient treatment and stabilization within the scope of practice and certification limitations, as governed by the Department of Public Health. The EMT will care for patients across all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics, adhering to population-specific guidelines and Georgia Department of Public Health standards. The position involves providing direct patient care during transport, ensuring vehicles and equipment are maintained, and completing documentation accurately and expeditiously.

Requirements

  • State certification as Emergency Medical Technician.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • As approved by State of Georgia Department of Public Health to include emergency vehicle operation.

  • Competent in the administration of epinephrine auto-injectors for anaphylaxis

  • Competent in the administration of oxygen using the nasal cannula or mask designed for delivery of oxygen. This does not include the High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
  • Is knowledgeable of all laws pertaining to emergency vehicle operation.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the Medical Transport Supervisor.
  • Provide treatment and stabilization of all patients within scope of practice and limitations of certification.
  • Care for patients in the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
  • Perform clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines and adhere to the Georgia Department of Public health.
  • Administer epinephrine auto-injectors for anaphylaxis.
  • Perform pulse oximetry and blood glucose measurements and interpretation.
  • Perform administration of pre-measured unit doses of nebulized bronchodilator.
  • Administer oxygen using the nasal cannula or mask.
  • Serve as the primary patient caregiver during transport.
  • Operate emergency vehicles within NGHS standards and Georgia laws.
  • Maintain all certifications required by law/department.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of emergency medicine relative to pre-hospital treatment of all sick and injured patients.
  • Ensure that emergency vehicle is clean and decontaminated at all times and that vehicle is fueled and fully stocked.
  • Maintain all equipment on the ambulance is accounted for at all times, and that any equipment left at the hospital is retrieved.
  • Maintain and comply with all mandatory NGHS education.
  • Use sound judgment in resolving problems using the chain of command and the NGHS Safety Took Kit.
  • Properly dress in appropriate uniform attire.
  • Use radio communication professionally and as directed.
  • Complete documentation accurately and expeditiously within the standards of Medical Transport.
