Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is looking for a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician to join our Emergency Department team. This role will be Part Time Night shift; Monday – Friday, rotating weekends, 7PM - 7AM. Inova is consistently ranked a national healthcare leader in safety, quality and patient experience. Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• BLS and EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMT License/Certification
• Able to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Computer skills.

Nice To Haves

• EMT related experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates correct stabilization and immobilization of spine and proper fitting of splints for extremities; Demonstrates ability to assess neurovascular status after splint application and reports deviations to the Registered Nurse and physician.
• Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit); Arranges interfacility transport from freestanding Emergency departments.
• Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures; Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment; Coordinates with materials management to ensure appropriate stock and minimize outdated stock.
• Obtains 12 lead ECG per physician order and provides ECG to physician for review immediately upon completion.
• Reviews Medical Director orders as related to disease state; Monitors and reports patients' progress towards expected outcomes and deviations to the Registered Nurse.
• Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to provide patients with optimum care.
• Follows computer system and department operational procedures and training guidelines to obtain accurate demographic, diagnosis and insurance information.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.
