About The Position

Responsible for the provision of optimum patient care in accordance with the KY EMS Regulations KRS 311A.140 and all Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital-Emergency Medical Service guidelines and protocols. This role requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work under minimal supervision in stressful environments. The EMT will be responsible for the safe operation of EMS vehicles and maintaining all equipment and supplies in a state of readiness. Collaboration with local Fire and Law Enforcement agencies is essential for coordinated patient care. Documentation of all patient care assessments and service reports must be completed in a timely manner. Professional conduct and good judgment in handling conflict and stressful situations are expected.

Requirements

  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • No experience required
  • High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher required upon hire
  • EMT - Certified Emergency Medical Technician in the state of Kentucky required upon hire
  • Driver - Valid driver's license and 21 years of age required upon hire
  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position

Responsibilities

  • Navigates ambulance to the patient's location.
  • Provides stabilization of scene and requests additional assistance as necessary.
  • Determines nature and extent of illness or injury and patient's history from available sources.
  • Administers emergency medical care within scope of practice, including patient stabilization, monitoring, and resuscitation from the scene to receiving medical facility.
  • Contacts medical personnel, reports/records observations, and follows directives from supervising physician or registered nurse.
  • Maintains equipment, restocks supplies, and cleans ambulance as necessary.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of all EMS vehicles in accordance with current Kentucky Motor Vehicle codes.
  • Maintains personal knowledge and skills in order to deliver optimum patient care as an EMT.
  • Stocks and maintains the EMS vehicle and its contents in a state of readiness at all times.
  • Must be able to work with local Fire and Law Enforcement agencies as a team for a coordinated effort on the patient's behalf.
  • Documents all patient care assessments, BLS skills and all service reports in a timely manner.
  • Must be punctual and ready for all shifts.
  • Acts at all times in a professional manner and handles conflict and stressful situations with good judgment.
