About The Position

Gilbert Fire & Rescue's Transportation Division is hiring Transportation Emergency Medical Technicians to staff our dedicated civilian EMS units. This is a full-time, 56-hour EMT role working alongside licensed paramedics within a 911 Emergency response system. The Department operates six medic units across eleven stations under direct medical oversight. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list from which we will fill vacancies as they open over the coming months.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License by hire date - a 36-month motor vehicle record will be obtained during the pre-employment screening process; a satisfactory driving history is required for hire.
  • Possess a current Arizona Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Certification or National Registry EMT in good standing at the time of application
  • Possess a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Professional Provider certification from American Heart Association or American Safety and Health Institute
  • To be eligible, incumbents cannot be on the Office of Inspector General (OIG) list of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and fingerprinting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a pre-hospital emergency or interfacility care setting is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides emergency medical services treatment, and transportation in accordance with Arizona laws, Arizona Department of Health Services rules and regulations, regional protocols, Fire and Rescue Department policies and procedures, and base station medical direction.
  • Administers emergency medical care utilizing accepted guidelines of basic life support procedures in treating the sick and injured.
  • Performs cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and inserts various oral airway adjuncts within the scope of practice; applies various splints, backboards, and cervical collars.
  • Drives/operates Fire and Rescue Department transportation vehicles.
  • Maintains minimum inventory/stock of emergency medical services equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in emergency medical services training programs, community service/public safety education events and other related programs.
  • Supports firefighting crews in performing non-firefighting-related duties (e.g. rehabilitation sector, medical assistance, etc.); develops an understanding of emergency scene operations and Incident Command System.
