About The Position

To provide pre-hospital care, emergency medical treatment given to patients before they are transported to a hospital or other facility. Conduct alcohol and drug tests for LL Gaming and RTC.

Requirements

  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Must have good writing skills to maintain and complete necessary forms including record keeping of EMT Trainings.
  • Must have ability to maintain an efficient and accurate filing system for these forms.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to work various hours, including rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends.
  • Must be knowledgeable in computer applications and the operation of standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to follow the direction of EMS Manager.
  • Must have strong leadership abilities and make good sound decisions in order to take charge of and control an emergency situation.
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Physically capable of remaining on feet for long periods of time.
  • Subject to internal working conditions, including a smoking environment.
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Must meet Tribal/State compact licensing requirements, pass criminal background check and submit to drug testing.
  • Must have 110 hour (minimum) course based on the U.S. Department of Transportation curriculum in Pre-hospital Emergency Care, CPR/AED certified, State and National Exams, certified as an EMT-Basic by the EMSRB, 24 hour refresher course every two years and Continuing Education Units for National Registry Certification.
  • Must have continued education for EMT training; lectures, in-services, seminars and videos, etc.
  • Must attend bi-monthly in-services at sites for the following: cold weather emergencies, trauma patients, review writing runsheets, Rapid Trauma Assessment, detailed physical examination, asthma attacks, diabetic emergencies, Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia, seizures, chest pain, shortness of breath, strokes, head injuries, water rescue, fractures, dislocations and sprains and inhaled poisons, and other topics as necessary.
  • Must review SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Must be knowledgeable of policies and review Drug testing procedures for LL Gaming and RTC.
  • Must be trained on approved variances with Medical Director
  • Must have knowledge of local, state and federal legislation, regulations, standards and guidelines that affect the EMS area.
  • Ability to work in conditions which expose technicians to a greater risk of harm or discomfort in the following areas: a. Exposure to Blood borne pathogens, airborne infections (HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis, etc. b. Hazardous materials, chemicals, fire and weather related hazards, etc. c. Violence, crime scenes, alcohol or drug use and weapons. d. Mentally unstable patients. e. Confined, crowded environments. f. High stress, life and death situations.
  • Must have specialized training in the following: a. Backboards b. AED (Automated External Defibrillator) c. Combitube d. KED (Kedrick Extrication Device) e. Traction Splint f. IV’s g. Glucogon h. C-Collars i. O2 Tanks and Regulators j. Oral and Nasal airways k. Chem Kits (Glucometer kit) l. Suction Unit m. Epi-pens n. CPR Instructions o. 1st Aid Instructions

Responsibilities

  • Determines nature and extent of patient conditions while trying to assess possible pre-existing medical problems.
  • Determines level of care, patient assessment, medical care and mechanism of injury/illness.
  • Responds to all persons needing care and treatment; controls life threatening situations to include maintaining an airway, artificial ventilations, bleeding, shock, diabetic reactions, cardiac arrest and traumas.
  • Stabilizes non-life threatening situations to include dressing and bandages, splinting injured extremities, dealing with the psychological stress of patients and ill patients.
  • Use of non-medical skills, such as maintaining supplies and equipment, using good written communication skills, recordkeeping, knowing proper extrication techniques, and coping with related legal issues and confidentiality.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork and run-sheets for all patients, including refusal for treatment, ensure patient fully understands what they are doing and the consequences of not going to the hospital.
  • Conducts alcohol and drug testing while insuring the integrity and confidentiality of each is not jeopardized.
  • Completes daily computer data entry as requested by EMS Manager.
  • Completes Inventory control and replacement of equipment and supplies.
  • Uses two-way radio and 10 codes.
  • Conducts cleaning and replacement of equipment.
  • Determines if ambulance is needed.
  • Maintains uniform and present a neat, professional appearance while on duty
  • Maintains knowledge of all events in the property as a whole.
  • Attends and/or facilitates all mandatory meetings and training.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Is sensitive to Native American Culture.
  • Operates within the parameters of the Leech Lake Gaming Human Resource Policy, Departmental Policy Manual and all Tribal Internal Controls (TICs), and all other applicable regulations.
  • Secures the assets of Leech Lake Gaming and the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
