About The Position

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides emergency medical response, basic healthcare services, and medical support within a federally contracted ICE Short-Term Residential Facility. Working under the direction of the Health Services Administrator, Registered Nurse, or other licensed healthcare provider, the EMT is responsible for responding to medical incidents, conducting patient assessments, providing basic life support, assisting with clinical operations, and supporting the overall health and safety of residents, staff, and visitors. This role requires sound judgment, strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations while maintaining compliance with facility policies and applicable healthcare standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification in the state of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Valid driver's license, if required by facility operations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required facility clearances, background investigations, and security requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to maintain electronic records.
  • One (1) year or more of EMT experience.
  • Employees must be a U.S. Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident
  • Employees must adhere to all federal security, confidentiality, and operational protocols while working within government facilities.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
  • Must show proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Internal background check to the satisfaction of contract requirements.
  • If applicable, Child Abuse/ Neglect Report (CAN) or child protective services check with no adverse findings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in correctional, detention, residential, emergency response, urgent care, or community healthcare settings.
  • Experience working with diverse populations in a structured environment.
  • Additional emergency response certifications or training.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another commonly encountered language

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide Basic Life Support (BLS) services within the scope of EMT certification.
  • Conduct patient assessments, obtain vital signs, document findings, and communicate patient conditions to healthcare providers.
  • Assist with triage and evaluation of residents presenting with illness, injury, or medical concerns.
  • Provide emergency care and stabilization until advanced medical personnel or outside emergency services arrive.
  • Coordinate emergency transportation and facilitate communication with local EMS agencies and receiving healthcare facilities as needed.
  • Assist residents with basic healthcare needs and support continuity of care efforts.
  • Assist physicians, nurses, and other healthcare personnel with routine clinical operations and patient care activities.
  • Prepare examination and treatment areas and ensure clinical supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Assist with health screenings, intake assessments, and routine monitoring activities as directed.
  • Support infection prevention and control measures throughout the facility.
  • Maintain emergency response equipment and medical supplies in a state of readiness.
  • Complete accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of assessments, treatments, incidents, and resident interactions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies.
  • Adhere to all healthcare protocols, standing orders, and clinical procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare staff, facility leadership, security personnel, and external healthcare providers.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness drills, training exercises, and staff development activities.
  • Maintain professional conduct and effective communication when interacting with residents, staff, contractors, and visitors.
