EMT/Paramedic
About The Position
John Knox Village is seeking a caring, calm, and highly responsive Emergency Medical Technician to provide emergency medical support to residents, employees, and visitors at its Life Plan Community in Pompano Beach, Florida. The EMT responds to emergency calls, assesses medical situations, administers appropriate first aid and emergency care, determines whether transport to an emergency room is necessary, uses medical equipment to evaluate injuries or illness, and completes detailed incident reports. The role requires professionalism, compassion, clear communication, and the ability to act decisively while remaining calm in stressful situations. John Knox Village is a not-for-profit Life Plan Retirement Community offering independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care to more than 1,000 residents on a 70-acre campus. This position is subject to Level 2 background screening under Florida law. The workplace is drug-free and tobacco-free, and John Knox Village is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- State-certified EMT Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic license, which must be maintained.
- Valid driver's license.
- 2–4 years of related EMT experience.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate note-taking skills.
- Ability to manage stressful situations and multitask effectively.
- Ability to sit, stand, and patrol for long periods.
- Ability to lift and push at least 50 pounds, with stamina to repeatedly lift, bend, and kneel.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
- Outstanding communication skills, including two-way radio communication.
- Ability to remain calm, courteous, and attentive at all times.
Responsibilities
- Respond rapidly to emergency calls following established emergency procedures.
- Assess medical situations and perform physical examinations.
- Administer first aid and emergency care to sick or injured individuals.
- Determine whether emergency room transport is required.
- Provide medical care in accordance with EMT certification.
- Use medical equipment to assess injuries or illness.
- Complete incident reports for all medical response calls.
- Maintain professionalism, calmness, and compassion in all situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
