About The Position

Responsible for the interfacility ground transport of critically ill and injured pediatric patients. The care includes basic assessment, stabilization and preparation for ambulance transport within guidelines established by DPH and MUSC protocols, in collaboration with other members of the team. The EMT is primarily responsible for driving the ambulance and maintaining cleanliness and functionality of all vehicle equipment and supplies. As part of the team, the EMT may be asked to participate in hospital-based or flight program-based community outreach and education programs. The EMT is expected to uphold MUSC’s standards of professionalism and complete all mandatory certifications and ongoing training as directed by the Clinical Manager, Medical Director or Training Officer.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 0-6 months of experience
  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT or Advanced EMT Certification
  • Ability to possess and maintain a South Carolina Emergency Medical Technician Basic or Advanced EMT Certification
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
  • Continuous standing, sitting, and walking
  • Continuous pinching operations, gross motor use of fingers/hands, firm grasping of fingers/hands, reaching in all directions, and repetitive motion of hands/wrists/elbows/shoulders
  • Continuous full use of both legs
  • Continuous maintenance of corrected vision 20/40 (one or both eyes), recognition of objects (near/far), color discrimination, depth perception, peripheral vision, hearing acuity (with correction), and tactile sensory function
  • Continuous gross motor with fine motor coordination
  • Continuous olfactory (smell) function qualification
  • Continuous respirator use qualification
  • Continuous effective stress management
  • Continuous work in a latex-safe environment
