About The Position

Provides stand by emergency medical care and transportation at special event venues. Responds to emergency scenes to provide emergency medical care and transportation. Responds to hospitals, nursing homes and other locations to provide non-emergency medical care and transportation. Provides medical care and monitoring at the scene, en route to the hospital and during transportation to, from and/or between facilities. Provides appropriate medical care and monitoring per local medical protocol and state law, adhering to company, local, regional, and state guidelines regarding patient care and delivers the patient to the appropriate medical facility. Performs other duties related to emergency and non-emergency medical care and transportation as directed.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high degree of personal integrity and responsibility.
  • Currently licensed, certified or registered by the appropriate state agencies.
  • Currently certified in CPR by the AHA or other appropriate organization.
  • Currently licensed with the appropriate level of state motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Currently has a clean driving record as approved by company vehicle liability insurer.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, using good judgment.
  • Ability to work efficiently and interact in a constructive and professional manner with other employees, public safety personnel and medical staff.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with patients, customers, clients, family members, bystanders, and the general public.
  • Demonstrate a level of skill and ability consistent with the provision of high quality patient care.
  • Ability to perform effectively as team leader and team member in patient care situations.
  • Ability to perform effectively in carrying out public relations and community education functions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that ambulance and all equipment is ready for use at the beginning of each shift and after every call, including cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, restocking, and completing daily checklists.
  • Ensures security of buildings, vehicles, equipment, medications and all other company property.
  • Performs daily inspections and housekeeping duties for assigned base/station and living quarters.
  • Maintains appropriate communications with company dispatch, medical control and other agencies.
  • Responds to emergencies and non-emergencies using appropriate care and caution in accordance with state law, EMS regulations, company policy, and safe emergency vehicle operation principles.
  • Renders emergency and non-emergency medical care and transportation in accordance with local medical protocol and state law, adhering to company, local, regional, and state guidelines.
  • Appropriately and safely delivers the patient to the appropriate medical facility.
  • Acts at all times in the best interests of high quality patient care, in the best interest of the patient, and in such a manner to reflect credibly on the company and the professional reputation of the EMT.
  • Acts at all times with personal safety and the safety of others in mind.
  • Accompanies patients to their destination, continuing to provide appropriate care and patient advocacy until responsibility is transferred to an appropriate medical professional.
  • Completes and signs all appropriate documentation for every response and transport.
  • Obtains complete medical histories and billing information for all patients treated and/or transported.
  • Maintains security and privacy of all company and patient information in accordance with HIPPA and other regulations.
  • Adheres to Universal Precautions/Body Substance Isolation and Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a team leader when necessary, directing and supervising other members of the emergency medical care team.
  • Performs duties related to public relations and community education programs.
  • Accepts responsibility for recertification as an EMT and for other required licenses and certifications.
  • Reports to assigned shifts on time, properly groomed in uniform, unless proper notification has been made.
  • Remains on-duty and in proper uniform until properly relieved.
  • Sets an example of professionalism and leadership.
  • Places patient care excellence and safety above all else.
  • Performs other duties as directed by management.
