About The Position

The Emergency Medical Tech II performs technical duties that support the direct and indirect treatment and care of patients in the Clinical Decision Unit at John Peter Smith Hospital. The role includes performing EKGs, venipuncture (not applicable to the Emergency Department), IV skills, and bedside testing; providing emergency first aid; responding to medical emergencies; and providing basic patient care with consideration for patients’ age and developmental stage. The technician transports patients by wheelchair or stretcher, reports abnormal findings or changes in patient status to a nurse, performs clerical functions, and accesses and navigates Epic. The listed duties are not exhaustive and may change; staff may be assigned other duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of the Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B TX) or Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P) curriculum as defined by the State of Texas.
• State registration as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B TX) or Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P).
• Current JPS-recognized BLS certification, maintained throughout employment.
• Relevant experience corresponding to classification: EMT I, 0–1.99 years; EMT II, 2–4.99 years; EMT III, 5–9.99 years; EMT IV, 10 or more years.

Nice To Haves

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Level 1 EKG Competency (subsequent to hire).

Responsibilities
