About The Position

This position ensures inspections, investigations, training, education, and other Emergency Medical Services section tasks are carried out in accordance with applicable guidelines and regulations. The role involves performing comprehensive inspections of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Rapid Response agencies, their operational procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, or standards. The inspector will also investigate complaints related to alleged violations of the South Carolina Emergency Medical Services Act, EMS regulation, or patient care standards. This is an essential employee position, subject to duty and/or call on a 24-hour basis during an emergency, and may require supporting other sections within the Deputy area as necessary.

Requirements

• A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience.
• A valid driver's license.
• Excellent written and oral skills.
• Five (5) years' experience as a Paramedic or a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience as a Paramedic.
• Must be certified as a SC Paramedic and National Registry Paramedic or eligible to obtain National Registry Paramedic credential within one (1) year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive inspections of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Rapid Response agencies and their operational procedures and training programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, or standards.
• Ensures inspections and investigations are conducted according to statutes, regulations, and department guidelines.
• Consults with EMS Section Manager regarding compliance concerns.
• Maintains and updates agency records.
• Reviews change requests and license renewal applications for licensed EMS and Rapid Response agencies.
• Updates the Division credentialing system to reflect current license, vehicle, permit, inspection, and personnel status for licensed EMS agencies.
• Investigates complaints related to alleged violation of South Carolina Emergency Medical Services Act, EMS regulation, or patient care standards.
• Assists with interviews, obtaining written statements, and preparing reports and correspondence.
• Documents and reports findings to the EMS Section Manager and EMS Division Investigator.
• Performs other duties as necessary, including but not limited to: training of new employees, participating in hearings and trials and disaster preparedness and response.
• Supports other sections within the Deputy area as necessary.
