About The Position

The Emergency Medical Responder’s (EMR) primary responsibility is to answer emergency calls, providing efficient and immediate care to ill and injured residents. The EMR is also responsible for carrying out life safety, security, and concierge responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Render emergency medical care based on assessment findings using a limited amount of equipment, including opening and maintaining an airway, ventilating patients, administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, administering Oxygen, and providing emergency medical care for simple and multiple system trauma such as controlling hemorrhage, bandaging wounds, and manually stabilizing injured extremities.
  • Address general medical complaints, altered mental status, seizures, environmental emergencies, behavioral emergencies, and psychological crises.
  • Identify the mechanism of injury or nature of illness, the total number of patients, and request additional help if necessary.
  • Determine when additional support is needed and act accordingly, including communicating with on-call providers for guidance, providing ongoing assessment and additional care while awaiting EMS resources, verbally reporting observations and care rendered to responding EMS units, assessing the extent of injury and rendering care while awaiting EMS providers, contacting other EMR and/or Security for additional help when necessary, and performing basic triage when required.
  • Conduct post-call activities including completing an Event Report, restocking and replacing used supplies, cleaning and disinfecting all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures, and checking all equipment to ensure it is in working order for the next response.
  • Function within the scope of care as defined by state, regional, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Comply with regulations on the handling of the deceased, protection of property and evidence at the scene, while awaiting additional EMS resources.
  • Perform security sweeps to ensure secure access points remain locked.
  • Perform Fire Life Safety Rounds.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation drills and training.
  • Answer Concierge desk phones in a courteous and professional manner.
