About The Position

The Emergency Medical Responder’s (EMR) PRN primary responsibility is to answer emergency calls, providing efficient and immediate care to ill and injured residents. The EMR is also responsible for carrying out life safety, security, and concierge responsibilities. This is a PRN (On Call) position with a base pay rate of $22 per hour, plus differential pay for specific shifts.

Requirements

  • Must hold an active EMT/EMR or Paramedic certification.
  • Must hold active certification of CPR, BLS.
  • Must have 6 months to 1 year of working experience.
  • Ability to function in uncommon situations while remaining calm.
  • Able to apply basic knowledge of stress response and methods to ensure personal well-being.
  • Ability to apply principles of body substance isolation.
  • Ability to apply basic medical-legal principles as they pertain to the EMR role.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well with many people and adapt to diverse situations.
  • Ability to maintain a professional work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Render emergency medical care based on assessment findings, which may include opening and maintaining an airway, ventilating patients, administering CPR, administering Oxygen, providing emergency medical care for simple and multiple system trauma (controlling hemorrhage, bandaging wounds, manually stabilizing injured extremities), and addressing general medical complaints, altered mental status, seizures, environmental emergencies, behavioral emergencies, and psychological crises.
  • Identify the mechanism of injury or nature of illness, the total number of patients, and request additional help if necessary.
  • Determine when additional support is needed and act accordingly, including communicating with on-call providers for guidance, providing ongoing assessment and care while awaiting additional EMS resources, verbally reporting observations and care rendered to responding EMS units, assessing the extent of injury and rendering care while awaiting EMS providers, contacting other EMRs and/or Security for additional help when necessary, and performing basic triage when required.
  • Complete post-call activities including completing an Event Report, restocking and replacing used supplies, cleaning and disinfecting all equipment following appropriate procedures, and checking all equipment to ensure it is in working order for the next response.
  • Function within the scope of care as defined by state, regional, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Comply with regulations on the handling of the deceased, protection of property and evidence at the scene, while awaiting additional EMS resources.
  • Perform security sweeps to ensure secure access points remain locked.
  • Perform Fire Life Safety Rounds.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation drills and training.
  • Answer Concierge desk phones in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Differential pay for weekend overnight shifts ($3.00 per hour for 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.)
  • Differential pay for weekday evening shifts ($0.75 per hour for 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.)
  • Differential pay for weekday overnight shifts ($1.00 per hour for 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.)
