About The Position

Administers care to patients and performs various patient care activities and tasks in collaboration with and under the direction of emergency medicine providers and nurses. Collaborates with other staff members in the performance of duties. Complies with all established standards and practices. The Emergency Department/Trauma Center provides emergency health care for children and adolescents up until their 18th birthday who present for care. Emergency care is provided for all types of illnesses and injuries, 24 hours a day. The severity of illness and injury varies and is defined by the Triage guidelines as non-urgent, urgent, and emergent. 54% of all inpatient admissions will come from the EDTC, which is 17% of all EDTC patients. With the frequent populations seen, collaborative practice protocols help to expedite care delivered. Children's Wisconsin is an equal opportunity / affirmative action employer. Requirements

  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required
  • Successful completion of a state approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Paramedic program or course, or graduate of Medical Assistant Program (Clinical Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Registered Medical Assistant) required
  • Collaborative teamwork skills within an interdisciplinary group focused on patient care.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
  • Exhibits strong decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times according to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.
  • Demonstrates compassion and patience with a deep level of concern for patients.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and in a positive manner with patients, family, public, and other health care workers.
  • Must be able to cope with stressful situations, including death and dying and dealing with anguished relatives.
  • Ability to perform while under stress.
  • Ability to follow hospital policies, goals and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years experience in Pediatrics, Emergency Department or Urgent Care preferred
