About The Position

The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the nursing care for a group of assigned patients in the health care system. The Registered Nurse supports medical care as directed by the medical staff and pursuant to the objectives, goals, and policies of the hospital. The Registered Nurse performs duties in a manner that reflects the basic values of love and concern for others, demonstrating respect for all others (patients, visitors, general public, and fellow employees) through behavior that exhibits a willingness to be helpful, courteous, and friendly. They strive to be a faithful, cooperative team member, industrious in giving their best effort creatively for the welfare of the patients and the hospital, and are just.

Requirements

  • Current, unencumbered licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Oklahoma.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Maintains current ACLS certification.
  • Maintains current PALS certification.
  • Maintains other certifications as required for position.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Supports medical care as directed by the medical staff and hospital policies.
  • May assign and give direction to other Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, or Certified Nurse Aides.
  • Accountable for the implementation of the nursing process for assigned patients and directs subordinates.
  • Assesses patient needs in collaboration with physicians, staff, patient, and patient's family, and by chart review.
  • Formulates a treatment/care plan specific to individual patient needs, considering pathophysiology and other health problems.
  • Continuously reviews and revises the treatment plan/plan of care as needed until discharge, including a discharge plan of care.
  • Responsible for knowing the condition of patients while on duty.
  • Conducts rounds a minimum of every two hours, or more often as needed or ordered.
  • Documents assessments appropriately.
  • Notifies the physician promptly and appropriately of any changes in patient condition and documents notification.
  • Accountable for the planning of procedures or tests and notifying the physician of abnormal results.
  • Accountable for performing procedures within their scope of practice.
  • May prepare, administer, and record medication in conformance with facility policy and procedures.
  • Judges the effectiveness of medication administered and evaluates patient response.
  • Maintains complete records of procedures and treatments performed and medications administered.
  • Demonstrates the ability to carry out medical orders as directed and in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Supervises and coordinates the management of patients.
  • Maintains professional and open communications with co-workers and physicians.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with patient and family members.
  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintains employee, interdepartmental, and public relations.
  • Maintains patient rights and confidentiality and complies with departmental and facility policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal communication skills, including phone manners.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment in all patient care areas.
  • Assures operational condition of all emergency and specialized equipment by checking it at the beginning of their shift.
  • Supervises maintenance and ensures availability of equipment supplies.
  • Institutes cost-effective measures, including procuring charges and maintaining records of nursing and medical treatments rendered.
  • Maintains and encourages a positive and professional working relationship with employees, patients, and families, responding to their needs with promptness and empathy.
  • Follows the chain of command, giving or expressing criticism of hospital personnel, procedures, or policies in private and in a constructive manner.
  • Promotes good will to and for the hospital and fellow employees.
  • May participate on committees and in services at departmental and hospital levels as assigned or volunteers.
  • Identifies educational needs of patients and family, self, and staff and initiates appropriate action.
  • Assumes other duties and areas of responsibility as requested by the House Supervisor and/or Department Director.
